Salts
Description
This lesson teaches the student about various salts and their composition by tasking them to work on an assembly line in a “salt factory”.
Student will learn about: cations, anions, common salt names, nomenclature rules, salt ion balancing, and ion nomenclature.
Prerequsites
Knows how to name metal oxides. Is familiar with the makeup of metal oxide formulas. Knows how to name acid anions. Knows what the oxidation level shows and how to use it in naming.
Learning objectives
- The student will be able to describe what makes up a salt
- Able to use 3D models of molecules to create salts using written formulas
- Able to use 3D models of molecules to deduce which written formulas they represent.
